It will take 1 hour 36 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

The speed of bus = 40 km/h,

Time = 24 minutes = \frac{24}{60} hours  ( ∵ 1 hour = 60 minutes )

Since, Distance = speed × time

Thus, in 24 minutes the distance covered by bus = 40\times \frac{24}{60}

=2\times \frac{24}{3}

=2\times 8

= 16 km,

Now, speed of car = 50 km/h,

Let after t minutes the car will overtake the bus,

i.e. distance covered by car = distance covered by bus

⇒ 50t = 16 + 40t

⇒ 50t - 40t = 16

⇒ 10t = 16

⇒ t =\frac{16}{10} = 1.6 hours = 1 hour + 0.6 hour = 1 hour 36 minutes
