Okk.. I got the answer by using the principle of conservation of momentum for the canon and canon ball system. It is very simple, the canon ball is of 100 kg and moves with a speed of 100 m/s in the forward direction, therefore it's momentum is p=mv= 10000 kgm/s in the forward direction. Now the principle states that the canons acquired momentum also equals the momentum of canon ball I. e. 1000 x v = 10000. so from here I got the answer 10 m/s.
