a canon of mass 1000kg launches a canon ball of mass 100kg at a velocity of 100m/s.At what speed will the canon recoil

The canon will recoil with a speed of ten metre per second in the backward direction..
And this is a question of physics not chemistry..

RK242: Okk.. I got the answer by using the principle of conservation of momentum for the canon and canon ball system. It is very simple, the canon ball is of 100 kg and moves with a speed of 100 m/s in the forward direction, therefore it's momentum is p=mv= 10000 kgm/s in the forward direction. Now the principle states that the canons acquired momentum also equals the momentum of canon ball I. e. 1000 x v = 10000. so from here I got the answer 10 m/s.
