Case 1

Speed=20 km/ h

Time=15 min or 1/4hrs

Distance=speed × time =5km

Case 2

Speed =60 m/h

Time =1/4hrs

Distance = speed × time =15 km

Total distance = 20km

Question :-

A car moves at a speed of 20 km per hour for 15 minutes and then at a speed of 60 M per hr of next 15 minutes. Calculate the total distance covered by a car.

Answer :-

We know that :

Speed = distance / time

==> distance = speed × time

First distance covered

Given :

speed = 20 km/hr

time = 15 min

1 hr = 60 min

15 min = 1/4 hr

           = 0.25 hr

Now : distance = 0.25 hr × 20 km/hr

                         = 1/4 hr × 20 km/hr

                         = 5 km

Second distance :

Speed = 60 m / hr

           = 60 / 1000 km / hr

time = 15 min

       = 1/4 hr

Now :

distance = speed × time

              60 / 1000 km / hr × 1/4 hr

             = 60 / 4000 km

             = 0.015 km

             = 15 m

Total distance

distance = 5 km + 15 m

              = 5,000 m + 15 m

              = 5,015 m

Answer :

The distance travelled was 5,015 m

Hope it helps :-)
