A car moves with a speed of 40km/hr for 15mins and then with a speed of 60km/hr for 15mins.Find the total distance covered by the car
Answers
When car moves with the speed of 40 km/hr : -
⇒ Speed = Distance / time
⇒ 40 km / hr = Distance / 15 min
⇒ 40 km / hr x 15 min = Distance
⇒ 40 km / hr x 15 x 1 / 60 hr = Distance
⇒ 40 km x 15 x 1 / 60 = Distance
⇒ 4 x 15 x 1 / 6 km = Distance
⇒ 10 km = Distance = D₁
∴ The distance covered by car while moving with the speed of 40 km / hr is 10 km.
When car moves with the speed of 60 km / hr
⇒ Speed = Distance / time
⇒ 60 km / hr = Distance / 15 min
⇒ 60 km / hr x 15 min = Distance
⇒ 60 km / hr x 15 x 1 / 60 hr = Distance
⇒ 15 km = Distance = D₂
∴ The distance covered by car while moving with the speed of 60 km / hr is 15 km.
Therefore, total distance covered = D₁ + D₂
total distance covered = 10km + 15 km
total distance covered = 25 km
Hence, total distance covered by the car is 25 kilometers.
According to the question;
In 15 mins the car moves with a speed of 40 km/hr
(15 min = = )
So, the distance (D1) covered in 1/4 hr and with speed of 40 km/hr is:
= 40 × km
= 10 km
Then, next;
In 15 mins the car moves with a speed of 60 km/hr
(15 min = = )
So, the distance (D2) covered in 1/4 hr and with speed of 60 km/hr is:
= 60 × km
= 15 km
So, the total distance covered by car = D1 + D2
= 10 km + 15 km
= 25 km
