A car of mass 1200 kg is moving at a speed of 108km/h. It's stopped in 5s, on applying brakes. Calculate the force applied by the brakes and total work done.

Mass of car=1200kg

u=108 km/h

v=0

T=5s

F=m(v-u)/t

=1200(0-108)/5

=-25920 N

The negative sign here represents that the force applied is in the opposite direction.

Displacement=Speed×Time

=108×5

=540 km

Work done=FS

=-25920×540

=-13,996,800 J
