IN THE FIRST CASE,

INITIAL VELOCITY, u=0

FINAL VELOCITY, v=10m/s

TIME, t= 40s

Then,

Acceleration, a=v-u/t

=10-0/40

=1/4

=0.25m/s^2

THEN IN THE SECOND CASE

u=10m/s

v=-5m/s

t=10s

THEN,

a=v-u/t

=-5-10/10

=-15/10

=-3/2

=-1.5m/s^2
