A certain sum of money has been divided into two parts in the ratio 9 : 13. If the second part is ₹260 find the total amount

The ratio is 9:13.

The second part is 260.

That means the 13 is equal to 260.the first value will be assumed as X

So

9:13::X:260

When it is in this format then the formula is product of means is equal to product of extremes.

Product of means is the inner numbers. Product of extremes is outer number.

Hence we can write it as

13× x = 9×260

13x=2340

X=2340/13

X=180

That means the first value is ₹180
