Given :

A cloth merchant sold 151/2 m of cloth on a day. He sold 145/4 m of cloth the next day.

To Find :

How much cloth did he sell in all in those two days

Solution:

Cloth sold by merchant on first day =$15 \frac{1}{2} m$

                                                           = $\frac{31}{2} m$

Cloth sold by him on second day = $14\frac{5}{4} m$

                                                       =$\frac{61}{4} m$

Total amount of cloth sold on both days =$\frac{31}{2}+\frac{61}{4}$

                                                                  = $\frac{62+61}{4}$

                                                                  =$\frac{123}{4}$

                                                                  =$30 \frac{3}{4}$

Hence He sold $30 \frac{3}{4} m$ all in those two days
