Given :

A cloth merchant sold 151/2 m of cloth on a day. He sold 145/4 m of cloth the next day.

To Find :

How much cloth did he sell in all in those two days

Solution:

Cloth sold by merchant on first day =15 \frac{1}{2} m

                                                           = \frac{31}{2} m

Cloth sold by him on second day = 14\frac{5}{4} m

                                                       =\frac{61}{4} m

Total amount of cloth sold on both days =\frac{31}{2}+\frac{61}{4}

                                                                  = \frac{62+61}{4}

                                                                  =\frac{123}{4}

                                                                  =30 \frac{3}{4}

Hence He sold 30 \frac{3}{4} m all in those two days
