Stone because they has more weight compare than a coin and cover less surface

The coin reaches the ground early.

Given,

Mass of the coin=1 Kg

Mass of the stone=5 Kg.

Acceleration due to gravity=10m/s^{2}.

To find,

which one of them would reach the ground earlier than the other.

Solution:

  • When an object of mass m is thrown from a height h, the time in which it hits the ground is independent of the mass of the body.
  • But when the air resistance is considered the time to reach the ground becomes inversely proportional to the mass of the body.
  • The dependence of time, t on the mass, m of the object is shown as:
  • t∝\frac{1}{\sqrt{m} }

As the mass of the coin is smaller than the mass of the stone, it will reach the ground earlier than the stone.
