A compound contains 42.3913 % of potassium , 15.2173 % of iron, 19.5652% carbon and 22.8260% of nitrogen .Molecular mass is 368 .Find the molecular formula.

  1. Divide each percentage value by their relative atomic mass
  2. Then divide the values obtained by the smallest value among them
  3. It any answer comes in decimals(not 4.95etc it can be written as 5), multiply that value or that values(if more) starting from 2to make it a whole number
  4. Then use the empirical formula that is obtained by these calculations and calculate the molecular mass from it
  5. Then divide the molecular mass given by the mass calculated from the empirical formula
  6. You will get values like 2,3etc.Multiply the value obtained by the empirical formula like 2(CHO)=C2H2O2 or 3(CFC)=C3F3H3 etc
  7. You will get the molecular formula
