see the atomic mass is in the ratio 1:2
so atomic mass can be considered 2w (w is a variable)
the atomic mass is twice
for one atom is X we need 2 atoms of y.

Hey Dear,
◆ Answer -
Empirical formula of the compound will be XY2
◆ Explanation -
# Given -
Wx/Wy = 1/4
Mx/My = 1/2
# Solution -
Let nx & ny be the no of moles of X & Y respectively.
nx / ny = (Wx/Mx) / (Wy/My)
nx / ny = Wx.My / Wy.Mx
nx / ny = (Wx/Wy) / (Mx/My)
nx / ny = (1/4) / (1/2)
nx / ny = 1 / 2
As no of moles of X and Y are in the ratio 1 : 2, empirical formula of the compound will be XY2.
Hope this helped you.
