A concave mirror has a radius of curvature of 0.4m. Find the position and size of the image of an object 0.2m high placed 0.8m in front of the mirror.

Solution:

Given,

For concave lens,

f = -0.4/2 = -0.2 m

h1 = 0.2 m

u = -0.8 m

By using mirror formula,

1/f = 1/v + 1/u

=> 1/v = 1/f - 1/u

=> 1/v = -1/0.2 + 1/0.8

=> v = -0.27 m

Now,

By using formula of magnification,

m = - ( v / u ) = h2 / h1

=> -0.27 / 0.8 = h2 / 0.2

=> h2 = 0.067 m

A diminished, real and inverted image is formed.
