Solution :

Edge of the copper cube ( x ) = 27cm

edge of smaller cube ( y ) = 9 cm

If copper cube is melted and made

smaller cubes .

Let the number of smaller cubes = n

n = ( volume of big cube )/( volume of smaller

cube )

=> n = x³/y³

=> n = ( x /y )³

=> n = ( 27/9 )³

=> n = 3³

Therefore ,

n = 27

Hey,

Initial length of the edge of the copper cube = A = 27 cm

Initial volume of the copper cube = (A)³ = (27)³ = 19683 cm³

Now ,

After making smaller cubes , length of edge of each small cube = a = 9 cm

So, new volume (i.e. volume of each small cube) = (a)³ = (9)³ = 729 cm³

Let the number of small cubes be p

The volume of the initial cube = p × volume of each small cube

⇒19683 = p× 729

⇒p = 19683/729

⇒p = 27

So , the total number of small cubes is 27.
