1 mm = 0.001 m

Let L = length, meters

Volume of a cube = L³

Each face of the cube has an area of L²

Weight of the cube (all SIX faces of the cube covered)
= ( 6 )( L² )( 8000 kg/m³ )( 0.001 m )

= ( L² )( 48 kg/m² )

Weight of the water displaced by the volume of the cube
= ( L³ )( 1000 kg/m³ )

The weight of the cube equals the weight of the water displaced by the volume of the cube

( L² )( 48 kg/m² ) = ( L³ )( 1000 kg/m³ )

Rearranging...

L = ( 48 kg/m² ) / ( 1000 kg/m³ )

L = 0.048 m

L = 48 mm (the edge length).
