The total electric flux through the cylinder is zero.

There is a flux of −E.A−E.A on the top surface and +E.A+E.A in the bottom surface (assuming AAto be the circular area).

Positive flux is when field lines enter a closed surface and negative flux in when field lines leave a closed surface.

Hence the net flux is:

ϕ=+E.A−E.A=0
