We hear almost every day from the news papers that Prime Minister Modi is visiting this foreign country or that. It goes without doubt that it is important that India improves relationships with the countries of the world. In this age of globalization it is extremely important. It is important that we understand them and adopt better ways of life from them, if they are available.
But isn't it true that 'Charity begins at home'? Isn't it equally or more important that the Principal administrator of a country should understand his own country and people thoroughly? If he is to craft rules or amendments in the Constitution for the betterment of the country and its people, he has to have first-hand knowledge of things. India is composed of mainly villages. That is why Gandhiji had said that if we want to improve India we should begin with the villages.
Poverty is still a problem in many of the remote villages and tribals of India. Illiteracy another dire problem. Unemployment and under-employment are serious issues even in the literate sections of India. All these probelms give rise to great unrest and insurgency in India.
So isn't it for the Prime minister to visit these areas and study the root cause of these problems and find ways and means to remedy them? It is very important that the people who are pestered with the above problems should be heard and reassured of remedies. A visit from the Prime Minister will go a long way in boosting their morale and look at the future with a renewed hope. It will, to a certain extent, prevent them from straying to the path of crime and terrorism. So the Prime Minister would do well if he includes a few visits to the far-off Indian villages now and then in his itinerary.
In the present scenario of terrorism, it is very important that the youth are involved in the nation building. They should be sensitized with the current issues and dangers that await them at every corner. It is very important that they should be able to view life in a better perspective. At present things are not upward-looking for majority of the young generation. They find it hard to earn a reasonable livelihood and are trapped by people with vested interest by offering them better life in this world or a better life in the other world, if they follow this religion or that and if they are ready to commit atrocities for the cause of that religion.
A visit from the Prime minister and a chance to convey their feelings and problems to him will keep the youth without wavering from the path of good. He should start this from remote villages where they are more or less isolated from the main stream.
