Total no. of outcomes; n(s) = 6 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
No. Of favourable outcomes; n(e) = 2 [3, 6]
P(getting a multiple of 3) = n(e)/ n(s)
= 2/6 =1/3
I hope that answers the question.
Thanks.

Given:

A die is thrown

To Find:

Find the probability of getting a number which is a multiple of 3 on the upper face of a die

Solution:

Probability is defined as the chances for an event to happen out of all the possible outcomes for that event. It lies between 0 to 1 and is denoted by P.

The formula for probability is,

P=\frac{Possible outcomes}{TotalOutcomes}

The total number of possible outcomes will be,

(1,2,3,4,5,6) which is a total of 6 outcomes,

And the possible outcomes will be,

(3,6) which is a total of 2 outcomes,

Now put the values in the probability formula,

[tex]P=\frac{2}{6}\\\\ =\frac{1}{3} [/tex]

Hence, the probability is 1/3.
