The statement 'a diseased mind is even harmful than the disease itself' can be justified with the help of the character Jhonsy from O Henry's last leaf. Johnsy who has been suffering from pneumonia had fully lost her will to live because of the lack of the cure for pneumonia. She decided that she will die at the same moment as the last from the vine would fall of its branch. Therefore she lost her will to live and gave into the struggle against pneumonia, therefore losing her mind and make the disease even powerful.
