Complete Question :- A farmer Ramesh grows a corn cob in his farm. Corn cob contains valuable vitamin B. antioxidants, carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin which are useful for body grow. A corn cob(above figure ).Shaped some what like a cone, has the radius of its Broadest end as 7 cm and length as 24 cm.

Then answer the following questions, Which are based on above data.

1) If each 1 cm² of the surface of the cob carries an average of four grains, then find how many grains you would find on the entire cob ?

2) Find the volume of the corn cob ?

Solution :-

given that,

• height of corn cob = 24 cm.
• radius = 7 cm.

so,

→ slant height of corn cob = √(r² + h²) = √(7² + 24²) = √(49 + 576) = √(625) = 25 cm.

now,

→ CSA of the corn cob = π * radius * slant height = (22/7) * 7 * 25 = 550 cm².

since the grains of corn are found on the curved surface of the corn cob.

then,

→ Total number of grains on the corn cob = CSA of the corn cob * Number of grains of corn on 1 cm².

→ Total number of grains on the corn cob = 550 * 4 = 2200 grains (Ans.)

also,

→ volume of the corn cob = (1/3) * π * r² * h = (1/3) * (22/7) * (7)² * 24 = 22 * 7 * 8 = 1232 cm³. (Ans.)
