therefore age of his father is x + 26

sum of their ages = 56 yrs
>> x + x + 26 = 56yra
>> 2x + 26 = 56 yrs
>> 2x = 56 - 26
>> 2x = 30
>> x = 30/2
>> x = 15

hence, age of the son = x = 15 yrs
age of his father = x + 26 = 15 + 26 = 41 yrs
