A force of 5N acts on a body for 2ms.calculate the impulse.if the mass of the body is 5g,calculate the change of velocity

Impulse = change in momentum

 

impulse = force x time (F x t)

momentum= mass x change in velocity (mΔV)

∴  F x t = mΔV

 

i)impulse:

F x t = 5N x 2s

       = 10Ns

 

 

ii)Change in velocity

 

since impulse = chnage in momentum = (mΔV)

 

∴ 10 = (mΔV)

5g = 0.005kg

 

50= 0.005 x ΔV

 

ΔV = 10/ 0.005

 

ΔV= 200

 

Therefore change in velocity = 200m/s
