Solution
Given :-
- A fraction becomes 1/3 when 2 is
- subtracted from the numerator
- it becomes 1/2 when 1 is subtracted from the denominator
Find :-
- These fraction
Explanation
Let,
- Numerator be = x
- Denominator be = y
According to question,
==> (x-2)/y = 1/3
==> 3(x-2) = y
==> 3x - y = 6 _________(1)
Again,
==> x/(y-1) = 1/2
==> 2x = y - 1
==> 2x - y = -1______________(2)
Sub equ(1) & equ(2)
==> 3x - 2x = 6 + 1
==> x = 7
keep in equ(2)
==> 2×7 - y = -1
==> y = 14 + 1
==> y = 15
Hence
- Fraction will be (x/y) = 7/15 .
Since,
- Your answer will be option number (d).
