Heya
_____________________________________________________________

The men already in Garrison = 500

Extra men = 300

Total men now ( 500 + 300 ) = 800 men

500 men provision 24 days

1 men provision 24 x 500 days

800 men provision = 24 x 500 / 800

                              = 15 days

Given: 500 men had provisions for 24 days

Reinforcement of 300 men arrive

To Find: number of days the provisions will last.

Solution:

Number of days the provisions will last for 500 men = 24

So,

Number of days the provisions will last for 1 man = 24 x 500

If a reinforcement of 300 men is sent then

Total number of men in the camp = 500 + 300

                                                        = 800 men

Number of days provisions will last for 800 men = Number of days the provisions will last for 1 man/ 800

Number of days provisions will last for 800 men = \frac{24(500)}{800}

                                                                                 = 3 x 5

                                                                                 = 15 days

Therefore, the provisions will last for 15 days.
