A Gorilla in the Guestroom is a humorous account of what the author Gerald Durrell experienced when he had to accommodate a gorilla named N’Pongo in his guest room for some days during his job as a zookeeper. The author had no other option as the animal’s cage to house him inside the zoo was not ready.
The gorilla portrayed a grave courteous manner and sad expression that gave it a special place in the hearts of the author’s mother and wife. As a result, they had no objection to keeping N’Pongo in the guest room because the gorilla appeared to be very sober. However, by the time the animal’s cage arrived, N’Pongo had created more than enough damage in the room.
