A gun of mass 5 kg fires a bullet of mass 0.02 kg . the bullet leaves the barrel of the rifle at a velocity 120 m /s . if the bullet takes 0.1 s to travel through the length of the barrel, calculate the force experienced by the rifle due to its recoil.

m = mass of the bullet fired from gun = 0.02 kg

v₀ = initial velocity of the bullet from gun = 0 meter/second

v = final velocity of the bullet from gun = 120 meter/second

t = time taken to travel through barrel of gun = 0.1 s

a = acceleration of the bullet

Using the equation

a = (v - v₀)/t

a = (120 - 0)/0.1

a = 1200 m/s²

as per newton's second law , force is given as

F = ma

inserting the values

F = (0.02) (1200)

F = 24 N
