Let he buy X cost glasses, then
X × cost of each glass=1400
five were broken,so
No. of glasses=X-5
S.p=rs 10 per glass
S.p=1400+175(profit)=1575(total)
Now we get,
10(X-5)=1575
X-5=15.75
X=15.75-5=10.75
Therefore cost of each glass is 10.75

Cost price of one glass is  rs. 8.81

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

A man buys some glasses for  rs.1400

five glasses were broken.

A glass for rs. 10  is sold and profit of rs 175 is made.

To Find:  Cost price of one glass.

Formula Used:

Selling Price= Cost Price +Profit                  ----------------------- Formula no.01

Solution:

Let the Cost Price of  one glass =  Z

Let nos. of  glasses  bought  =  Y

As given -A man buys some glasses for rs. 1400

X.Y= 1400     ---------------- equation no. 01.

Selling price of a glass   = rs.10

Availability of glass  after 5 broken glasses = Y-5

Selling price of  available glasses =10 (Y-5)

Applying   formula no. 01.

Selling Price= Cost Price +Profit

Selling Price = 1400+ 175

                       = 1575

 10(Y-5) =1575

  Y-5   = 157.50

   Y = 162.50

Putting the value of Y in equation no. 01

X.Y=1400

 X    = 1400/Y

         = 1400/162.50

  X    = 8.81 .

Thus, Cost price of one glass is  rs. 8.81
