A man goes 1.2 km due north and then 0.5 km due west.Find the least distance between his initial and final positions.

1.2 km=1200 m
0.5 km=500 m

bc²=ab²+ac²
     =(1200)²+(500)²
     =1440000+250000
bc²=1690000
bc=√1690000=1300 m
bc=1.3 km
