He should sell the items for Rs 2.12 to gain a profit of 44%.
Explanation:
Let, the cost price (C.P.) of the 9 items be, 'n'.
Loss = 4%
∴ Loss = (n × 4/100)
= n/25
∴ S.P. = (C.P. - Loss) [∵ S.P. = Selling price.]
= (n - n/25)
= (25n - n)/25 [∵ The L.C.M. of the denominators is 25.]
= 24n/25
According to the given problem,
24n/25 = 1
⇒ 24 n = 1×25
⇒ n = 25/24
⇒ n = Rs 1.04
∴ The C.P. is Rs 1.40
Profit = 44%
∴ Profit =Rs (1.40 × 44/100)
= Rs 0.62
∴ S.P. = Rs. (1.40+0.62)
= Rs 2.12
∴ He should sell the items for Rs 2.12 to gain a profit of 44%.
