A man walked diagonally across a square region.Approximately, what was the percent saved by not walking along the edges?

let the side of the square be =a
had he walked the edges he would have traveled=2a
                   waling the diagonal he would travel =√2*a
                   Percentage saved by him= (2a-√2a)100/2a
                                                        = (2-√2)100/2
                                                        = 29.28%
