Answer:

≈ Rs. 2885

Step-by-step explanation:

Money spent- Rs 4500

Cost of dog: x

Cost of sheep: Rs. 4500 -x

1. Gain from dog- 20% ⇒  x*0.2= 0.2x

2. Gain from sheep- 5%⇒ (4500-x)*0.05= 225- 0.05x

3. Overall gain- 17.5% ⇒  17.5= 4500*0.175=Rs. 787.5

We need to add 1. to 2. to get 3. as overall gain is sum of parts:

  • 0.2x-0.05x+225=787.5
  • 0.195x=787.5-225
  • 0.195x= 562.5
  • x= 562.5/0.195
  • x≈2885

So price of the dog ≈ Rs. 2885

Hope it helps
