How to calculate gamma when mean and variance given?

If you have the population mean and variance , you can easily calculate the parameters of the gamma distribution by noting that μ = k θ and σ 2 = k θ 2 . So dividing the variance by the mean gives you the scale parameter , and then you can easily find the shape parameter k = μ θ .
