A milkman buys some milk. If he sells it at rs 5 a litre, he loses rs 200 but when he sells it at rs 6 a litre he gains rs 150 how much milk did he purchase

let he buys x litre milk at a rate of Rs y a litre

so amount he has spend to buy = x*y      ( * means multiplication )

if he sells at Rs 5 a litre then he will add a total of 5*x rupees

but he is in loss of Rs 200 , so x*y - 5*x = 200  ( equation 1st )

and if he sells at Rs 6 a litre then he will add a total of 6*x rupees

and he is in profit of Rs 150 , so 6*x - x*y = 150 ( equation 2nd )


adding these 2 equation we get x = 350

so he buys a total of 350 litre milk
