A millionaire bought a job lot of hats 1/4 of which were brown.the millionaire sold 2/3 of the hats including 4/5 of the brown hats. what fraction of the unsold hats were brown.

Solution :-

Let the total number of hats be 60

Then, total number of brown hats = 60*1/4

= 15 hats

Millionaire sold 2/3rd of the total hats = 60*2/3

= 40 hats

Out of the total 15 brown hats, he sold 4/5 brown hats.

Number of brown hats sold = 15*4/5

= 12 brown hats were sold 

So, out of the total sold 40 hats, 12 hats were brown.

Total number of unsold hats = 60 - 40 

= 20 hats

Total number of unsold brown hats = 15 - 12

= 3 hats 

Fraction of the unsold brown hats = 3/20
