Answer:

Required quantity of milk is 24 litres.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given a mixture contains milk and water.

Ratio of milk and water is 12:5

Let quantity of milk be 12x litres and quantity of water be 5x litres.

Now we are adding 8 litres of water in the mixture.

Then water will become (5x + 8)litres

After adding water,the ratio becomes4:3

According to question,

 \frac{12x}{5x + 8}  =  \frac{4}{3}

By cross multiplication,

12x  \times 3 = (5x + 8) \times 4

36x = 20x + 32

36x - 20x = 32

16x = 32

x =  \frac{32}{16}  = 2

So quantity of milk is (12 \times 2) = 24litres

and quantity of water is (5 \times 2) = 10litres.
