A mixture of oxygen and ethyne is burnt for welding. Can you tell why a mixture of ethyne and air is not used?

when ethyne is burnt in air it gives a scooty flame because of the low amount of oxygen present in air for the complete combustion. but whenever ethyne is burnt with oxygen it gets the adequate amount of oxygen need for the complete combustion and this oxy-acetylene flame is 3000*c.

Because air is a mixture of gases.it contain Nitrogen along with oxygen.Nitrogen will also burn in air producing oxides of nitrogen like Nitric oxide (No) and Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) which causes air pollution

C2H2 + 5/2 O2 ------> 2 CO2 + H2O + heat + light
