A mixture of water and mercury can be separated by sublimation.
The technique by which chemists purify compounds is known as sublimation.
Due to siublimation a substance changes from a solid to a gas without ever passing through a liquid phase.
Under this process a solid is placed in a sublimation apparatus and allowed to heat under vacuum.
The solid then volatizes and condenses under this reduced pressure and transform into a purified compound on a cooled surface by leaving behind a non- volatile residue of impurities
