Given:

In the first order,

5 carton of printing papers and 10 writing pads were ordered and total cost was Rs. 3000 .

In the second order,

10 carton of printing papers and 5 writing pads were ordered and total cost was Rs. 5250.

To Find:

The cost of one carton of printing paper and one writing pad.

Solution:

Let x be the cost of one carton of printing paper.

Let y be the cost of one writing pad.

Each order can be mathematically formulated as:

First Order:

  • 5x + 10y = 3000
  • x + 2y = 600 - (1)

Second Order:

  • 10x + 5y = 5250
  • 2x + y = 1050 - (2)

Now lets solve this system of linear equation:

  • (1) x 2 - (2) = >
  • 2x + 4y - (2x + y ) = 1200 - 1050
  • 3y = 150
  • y = Rs . 50
  • x = 600 - 2y = 600 - 100 = Rs. 500

The cost of one carton of printing paper = Rs. 500 and

the cost of one writing pad = Rs. 50.
