Character sketch of a narrator in 'A New Flower' by Ruskin Bond.
The story ‘A New Flower’ is a story by writer Ruskin Bond. In this story there are two main characters – A girl called Usha and a narrator.
The narrator who is telling the story is a freelance writer. He is staying in Himalayas in a cottage on the hill. The narrator is very fond of nature. He finds solace in its company. Though he likes flowers very much he doesn’t want to harm them. He is also worried about the rare species of flowers and their existence. He is very caring towards them and doesn’t like even goats trying to harm them. Besides he wants to protect the flower from all odds but he is unable to do so.
He is also friendly and can easily becomes friends with a small school going girl. At the end of the story he learns that human beings are not to protect the nature but nature has the ability to survive in odd conditions.
Thus, the narrator in true sense is a nature lover but knows his limitations as a human being. Narrator's character sketch resembles to Ruskin Bond himself.
