A number is first increased by 20% and then decreased by 15% find the net increase or decrease. Does is make any difference if its 15% decreased first and then 20% increased

Further 15% decrease the number becomes = 1.2x (1 - 15/100) = 1.2x * 0.85 = 1.02x

Net increase = 1.02x - x = 0.02x

Net increase % = (0.02x/x)*100 = 2%

It does not make any difference if 15% reduced first and then 20% increased

after 15% decrease number become = x ( 1- 15/100) = 0.85x

Further 20 % increase will make number = 0.85x (1+20/100) = 0.85x * 1.2x

= 1.02x
