Let the number be x.

X × 3 =3X

3X - 7 = 17

3X = 17 + 7

3X = 24

X = 24/3

X = 8

hence 8 is the number.

Answer:

8

Step-by-step explanation:

Question:  A number is multiplied by 3 and 7 is taken away from the product to get the answer 17. What is the number?

To Find : The number on which the operations are done.

Given : The number is multiplied by 3 and 7 is subtracted which gives the number 17.

Explanation:-

Let the number on which these operations are done= x

Now the number is first multiplied by 3 which gives = 3x .

Then the number is subtracted by 7 = 3x-7

Then this gives the result 17 .

⇒ 3x-7 = 17

⇒ 3x= 24

⇒ x= 8

Therefore 8 is the required number.
