Displacement is a vector quantity and is also known as the shortest distance covered by the body. If you start moving in a circle, and when you complete the half circle you will be at the same horizontal point as you were initially. Hence an 180° angle is subtended by both the vector quantities. Now, the magnitude of displacement when seen will be 2R.
