Due to the refraction held in waterm the the incident ray of light falls into the water and the refractive index of the water, bends it. Due to which, we can observe that the pencil has got bent. (sin i = sin r)

a pencil hafly immersed in water seems bend becoz of the phenomen refration and the ray of light frm pencil to observer must frm rarer to denser medium nd thats why bend away frm the normal . so bocoz of that every part of pencial has a virtual image slighty above the orignal position.

hope u like ^_^
