C.P of 1st type article ( 5 nos.) = 1Re.
C.P of 1 number = 1/5 Re.

C.P of 2nd type article (4 nos.) = 1 Re.
C.P of 1 number = 1/4 Re.

S.P of 9 articles = Rs. 2
S.P of 1 article = Rs. 2/9

Total C.P (2 numbers) = 1/5 + 1/4 = 9/20 Rs.
S.P of 2 articles = 2* 2/9 = 4/9 Rs.
Loss on 2 numbers = C.P - S.P = 9/20 - 4/9 = 81-80/180 = 1/180  [lcm = 180]
Given, he suffered a loss of '3 Rs.'
1/180 Rs=== 2 articles
3 Rs.====== X articles
X = 3*2*180 = 1080 articles
Hope this helps
