A person confessed his crime at the police station and the police locked him in jail for 6 months.Is this the correct procedure?Explain your answer?

Yes it is a correct procedure because if we will let the culpriut go it will try to do somthing more hazrdous than he has done before so if he or she had confessed their mistake it should get punishment for what he or she had done.
