A piece of chalk immersed into water emits bubbles in all directions. Why?

Chalk is made up of Ca(OH)2

Which when put & mixed with water gives out hydrogen gas . But the energy is not that sufficient to emit all the H2 gas ! Thus we observe bubbles !!!
