Height of pole = 18m

Shadow of pole =12 m

Height of tree =xm

Shadow of tree =4m

So ,

18/12=x/4

3/2=x/4

X=6 m

So height of tree is 6 m

Let the height of the tree be h m

Let us consider two triangles ABC and PQR right angled at B and Q respectively where AB=18 m and BC = 12 cm, QR= 4m and PQ= h m

In Triangles ABC and PQR

∠B = ∠Q (90 degrees)

∠C = ∠R ( The sun makes the same angle at the same time.)

Therefore, by AA similarity,

ABC~ PQR

So,

AB/PQ = BC/QR

18/h = 12/4

18/h= 3

18=3h

h= 18/3

h=6 m

Therefore, Height of tree = 6 m
