A rectangular sheet of metal 88 cm long and 20 CM broad is rolled along its length to form a cylinder. Find the curved surface area of the cylinder.​

Solution

A rectangular sheet of metal 88 cm long and 20 CM broad is rolled along its length to form a cylinder.

so..the curved surface area =area of the sheet

=88×20 cm²

=1760 cm²

Since, The rect. sheet is rolled along its length to form a cylinder .

So,

Length of rect. sheet = Circumference of the cylinder = 88 cm

Breadth of rect. sheet = height of the cylinder = 20 cm

Now,

Circumference of cylinder = 80 cm

2 π r = 80

r = 80/2π

r = 40/π cm

C S A of cylinder = 2 π r h

= 2 × π × (40/π) × 20

= 2 × 40 × 20

= 1600 sq. cm Ans...

Hence , CSA of cylinder is 1600 sq. cm .
