Given:

A retailer buys a cellphone at a discount of 15 % and sell it for Rs.5865 . Thus , he makes a profit of 15 % .

To find:

The discount is

Solution:

From given, we have,

A retailer buys a cellphone at a discount of 15 % and sells it for Rs.5865. Thus, he makes a profit of 15 %.

Let the marked price be Rs.x

Discount 15%

C. P. of the machinery for the dealer = x × 85/100 = Rs.17x/20

15% of 17x/20 = 5865 − 17x/20

51x/400 = 5865 − 17x/20

51x/400 + 17x/20 = 5865

51x = 2346000 - 340x

391x =2346000

x = Rs.6000

Discount received by the retailer = 6000 × 15/100 = Rs. 900

The discount is Rs. 900
