here is your answer... it's a basic one..

we know the formula for kinetic energy of any object is 1/2.mv^2 . let the velocity of the object be v as it goes up.So, the kinetic energy will be simply 1/2.mv^2 . now, v is tripled but the (v)^2 is clearly visible in this ques. so the kinetic energy will become 9 times ...instead of becoming thrice of the older kinetic energy.
