Given :-

  • A runner runs the circuit twice with a length of 10 km in 1 hr. and 15 minutes.   What is the runner’s average speed  ,  What is the runner’s average velocity?

Solution :-

  • First of all, let us find the average speed.

     → Total distance travelled = 2 × 10 = 20 km = 20,000 m

     → Time taken = 1 hr 15 min = 4500 s

    We know,

   Average speed = \sf\frac{total \: distance \: travelled }{total \: time \: taken\\ }

Average speed = \sf\frac{20000}{4500} = 4.44 m/s

  • Now, let us find the average velocity

   → Here, total displacement is 0, as the body starts at the same time and                      reaches the same point

   → Time taken = 4500 s

     We know,

     Average velocity = \sf\frac{total \: displacement}{total \: time}

  Average velocity = 0/4500 = 0 m/s

The average speed is 4.44 m/s and average velocity is 0m/s
